SKY DUST

Welcome to the
National Aeolian Detritus Project.

What is NADP?
Take the tour.

The essence of the National Aeolian Detritus Project - Sky Dust - is disarmingly simple -- what falls out of the sky and what does it mean?  NADP is an open-ended project that brings genuine scientific inquiry to many curricula and levels of instruction.

Using our non-specific flat sheet collectors, students from middle school through college have picked up material ranging from microscopic Mongolian illite particles and steam plant carbon balls to macroscopic insect body parts.  They identify these materials using commonly available microscopes and simple procedures.  With our assistance, sites design their own meaningful studies to follow their interests and initial collections.  They collaborate and share their results with other schools throughout the United States.

This website is the main line of communication among project participants and the project center.  Here participants can identify collections using our image catalog, order specialized analyses, and request other assistance.

Please be aware that this site is under development, so new material will be added frequently.
